Theo has thoroughly launched into the whatever. Now that he is a big 5+ weeks old, he is much more alert and active, and vocalizes a bit besides crying and burping. He is still able to not smile, but has to try harder, and occasionally a partial smile sneaks past. Conversations with him are still pretty much one-sided, but some of the glances and wiggles and murmels are edging closer to the conversational pattern. He's starting to figure out what hands and fingers and feet and toes are all about, and likes to be encouraged to try them out.
